About this experience

In 1525, Olav Engelbrektsson, the last Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Norway, started building his fortress and magnificent residence, the grandest building in Norwegian medieval history.

The Steinvikholm Castle was completed in 1532. Engelbrektsson ruled Norway from the castle for several years, as both a noble and clerical leader.

In 1537, Steinvikholm Castle was the centre of one of the most important events in Nordic history - the Danish takeover of power and reformation from Catholic to Protestant.

The site has a kiosk, beach and you can fish from the jetty. Both towers may be booked for functions, including catering.
