Ólafsdalur í Gilsfirði

Ólafsdalur is a small valley, surrounded by high mountains, where the first agricultural school in Iceland was established in 1880. The beautiful school-building is from 1896. Remains of many other buildings and man-made remains from 1880-1900 can be found here.
Recently, archaeologists have discovered remains of a Viking longhouse from the 9th-10th century, adding to the rich history of Ólafsdalur.
Visitors are welcome to explore this historic valley and learn more about its past. The opening hours are from 12:00-17:00 from July 25th to August 15th.
