About this experience

The Särestöniemi Museum in Kaukonen, Kittilä displays the art and working environment of Reidar Särestöniemi (1925-1981) who was the most remarkable Lappish artist of his time.

His most well-known works are his large, colourful oil paintings from the 1960’s and 1970’s.

The museum by the river Ounas is a unique combination of art, architecture, nature, and history.

The Särestöniemi Museum environment consists of several buildings, of which the most important are the old family farm and Särestöniemi’s studio and gallery.
