Sornfelli
Tórshavn, Faroe IslandsDepart Tórshavn on the mountainroad Oyggjarvegur towards Vagar airport.
On the way, you can make a stop in Norðadalur, to see the beautiful view over Koltur.
Approximately above the Kaldbaks-tunnel, you drive past some buildings with grass covered roofs, which used to be the military surveillance base, but today it is used as a prison.
Drive 2 kilometers further and turn left on the paved, public road. It is narrow, steep, and with many switchbacks. It leads to the top of the mountain Sornfelli by the old military surveillance radars, where there is a large parking lot.
When you reach the parking lot you are in 630 metres altitude, which makes this, the highest road on the Faroe Islands.
On a clear day, there is a spectacular view over several of the islands but even on a foggy day where the fog is low lying, you can see the mountain tops sticking out of the fog, which is just as stunning.
