About this experience

Tourists are welcome to visit the smithy in Nornðástova, a landmark of Mikladalur. The red blacksmith’s workshop, with its white windows, used to attract apprentices from all over the country, and the smithy produced everything from steel hooks that were used for hunting whales, to spectacle frames, to knives, and to the notorious Mikladalur scythe. The smithy closed in the 1970s, but the furnace is still active, and the 100 years old wheel outside the smithy was rebuilt in 2017. The smithy belongs to Norðnástova, whose ancestors built and worked in the smithy.
