Larvik is part of the Gea Norvegica UNESCO Global Geopark.

The geology and natural history of the area are of international importance and so exciting that it has received a UNESCO award.

The geopark is a limited area of 3000 km2 and is in Telemark and Vestfold county and includes the municipalities of Larvik, Bamble, Kragerø, Nome, Porsgrunn, Siljan and Skien.

Norway's national rock is called Larvikitt and is the dominant rock in Larvik.
