On the evening of March 30, 1945, a British Short Sterling aircraft was shot down over Vierli, far east Vegårshei municipality. All seven crew on board the aircraft were killed. There is a memorial next to the remaining wreckage of the crash site.
Getting there: Follow Highway 416 from Myra against Akland / Risør, and take your right after about 10km. There is a sign post from Highway 416 up until the memorial.
