About this experience

The typical fisher-farmer homestead Gamslett is situated in Svensby in Lyngen municipality on the shores of the Lyngenfjord. This museum provides living proof of what life was like on this typical farm a century ago.

The farm features several buildings, and the oldest part comprises of a two-room cottage, stable, barn, outhouse and traditional boathouse. The fisher-farmer culture was a common way of living in North Troms for several centuries up to around the 1950s. The people survived on the natural resources that were available at different times of the year. The most common was a combination of fishing, farming and harvesting of wild plants.
