In the Middle Ages, it was a monastery, and in the 1700s, it became the farm of the local magistrate. It was run as af farm until it became a museum in the 1930s. At Utstein Monastery, you will be received by smiling guides dressed up in medieval costumes who proudly present their garden with roses, ornamental bushes and herbs.
