About this experience

Utstein Monastery is Norway’s only preserved medieval monastery. It lies in beautiful surroundings on the island of Mosterøy. Once also the site for the Viking king Harald Fairhair's residence. In the Middle Ages, it was a monastery, and in the 1700s, it became the farm of the local magistrate. It was run as af farm until it became a museum in the 1930s. At Utstein Monastery, you will be received by smiling guides dressed up in medieval costumes who proudly present their garden with roses, ornamental bushes and herbs. Come and experience the silence and magic of this very special place!
