About this experience

Monumental stones in Grinde

The standing stones were registered in 1919. At that time only one of the stones stood upright. The other 6 stones had been taken down and put to use as building material for bridges. The ancient monument was restored in 1952 by Jan Petersen.

Monumental stones in Erland

The seven monumental stones at Erland stand in a plough formation. This is quite a rare archaeological occurrence since only one or two such stones normally mark ancient burial mounds. Exciting archaeological discoveries have revealed that Erland was most probably a centre of religious activity from the early Iron Age, dating back to about 500 b. c.
