About this experience

Old Kvernes Rural museum consists of 11 old buildings with a large and varied collection, from different time periods. The mail yard by the museum form a marine environment like it was in the 18th and 19th century.

Own marine section with fishermen's cabins and several boat houses represents the marine culture and the fisherman's life and work. Old boats are well preserved.

The museum also has an own archaelogical section with finds from the "Fosna Culture" (Mesolithic), from excavations by the area around Bremsneshatten.

The museum organize several events during the year, where local food traditions, craft, activities and the likes are important themes. An example is the Olsok ("St. Olav's Wake") fair during the last weekend of July, filled with activities.

Saltfeskbaill - a local fish speciality - is also for sale during this weekend. The museum is open every day except Mondays during the summer season.
