About this experience

Old Tingelstad church is a typical Romanesque rural church, with simple details and semi-circular arches. It is a typical long church built in stone.

Originally both the interior and exterior of the church were whitewashed. The interior still retains some of the medieval wall coating, as well as later coatings.

A reconstruction of the altar frontal was added in June. The altar is again embellished by this unique work of art from the period 1260–1290, depicting the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus and scenes from the birth of Jesus.
