About this experience

Fensfeltet Geological Exhibition is located on the second floor above the tourist information office in Ulefoss near the Ulefoss canal lock, and has an exhibition of rare minerals and rocks from Fensfeltet and minerals from Norway and elsewhere.

Fensfeltet is part of the geopark "Gea Norvegica", Scandinavia's first UNESCO recognized geopark. The area includes many unusual minerals and rocks from a volcano active about 580 million years ago and is well-known internationally. It is a typical area for carbonites.

Here you can also see an iron mine, active from 1627 until 1927. Søve mine (a unique mine in all of Europe) was active from 1952 to 1965. Beautiful natural surroundings. Exhibition open during the summer holidays, guided tour per request by telephone at 98 88 56 66.
