About this experience

The town hall was erected in the period between 1927-63, in accordance with drawings by architect Magnus Poulsson.

The town hall has a bell tower in the neo-Gothic style, and is a distinguished municipal building which currently houses the city council, municipal executive board, the mayor's office, chief administrative officer and the municipal management, in addition to some of the administrative functions for Bærum municipality.

Outside the town hall is the Elementene ("The Elements") fountain (1959-64), and the equestrian statue Friheten ("Freedom") (1949-53), both by Arnold Haukeland.

The carillon in the town hall was built in 1974, and consists of 25 bells. The tune it plays was written by composer Geirr Tveitt, and is played every hour.

The town hall is located on the east side of the Sandvikselv river.
