Traditional Knife Making Course in Puumala Archipelago

About this experience

You don’t have to be born a blacksmith to be able to make your own knife! On this four-day course you will learn traditional knife making with an experienced blacksmith in the picturesque village of Niinisaari in the Lake Saimaa region. We will go through all the stages of knife making: forging a blade and tempering, carving a wooden handle and forming the quillons, carving the sheaths wooden last, making tar thread and sewing up the leather sheath. The course runs from Thursday to Sunday and the maximum group size is 6 to guarantee individual guidance. The course is suitable for beginners. Price includes teaching, machinery use, materials, insurance and lunch and tea or coffee daily. Accommodation is available for 40€ pp/night at the nearby Okkola Holiday Cottages. Shorter one-day courses are available during the summer. Private courses for individuals or groups also available by request.
