The Church in Árnafjørð

About this experience

The long and hard road to the parish church in Klaksvík was the main reason that 46 villagers from Árnafjørður in August 1932 sent an application to the Faroese Parliament for financial support for the construction of a church.

The church was consecrated on the 10th October 1937, and Dean J. Dahl held the opening speech.

The church was significantly damaged when a mine exploded high up the river Bugá during the Second World War. The damage was quickly mended, but if you look closely, a small hole is still visible in the church vault from when the explosion flung a piece of driftwood up in the air and down through the roof.
