Vor Frue church, Vordingborg
Zealand, DenmarkThe Church of Our Lady in Vordingborg is a stunning example of mediaeval architecture. Built with large bricks, the church exudes a sense of strength and durability. However, it has also undergone reconditioning, which is evident in its appearance. The nave and aisles were constructed between 1432-60, while the tower was added much later, around 1600. Another addition, the vestry, was built in 1700.
Stepping inside, visitors are met with an awe-inspiring sight. The church's altarpiece, a magnificent wood carving by Abel Schrøder the Younger, was installed in 1641. It is accompanied by a grand choir screen, built to separate the clergy from lay people. Admiring the frescoes, one cannot help but notice the depiction of Jesus' birth and a clever caricature of Jeppe Murer.
