Ilse Made Kilde
Zealand, DenmarkAbout this experience
In Vesterløkken, you find Ilse Made Kilde, a holy spring. Fresh water springs from a hollow oak trunk dated back to the Bronze Age.
An old legend says that the spring appeared from where a dead woman once washed ashore. Around her neck she carried a golden crucifix. Horses couldn’t drag the body to the churches of Tranebjerg and Kolby, but they easily found their way to the church in Onsbjerg. Here, the woman was buried and the golden crucifix was hung in the choir.
If you drink from the spring on the night of Valborg, between 30th of April and 1st of May, it is said that the water has a curative effect.
