Paradisbakkerne is a hilly, rocky landscape with a dense pattern of rift valleys and unique natural woodland. Many of the valleys are narrow with almost perpendicular rocky sides and lush ground flora. There are several idyllic lakes ifl the area as well as old high-heath bogs.

The suggested walks pass many sights of interest and prehistoric monuments, like Fjeldstauan, Rokkestenen (Rocking Stone), Gamleborg ~, and Midterpilt.

Today, the County of Bornholm tries to keep some of khe areas open using various conservation measures. Årsdale Ret, Stendal, Dybedal, Grydedal, Kodal and Helvedesbakker are designated conversation areas to preserve them as characteristic high-heath areas.
