About this experience

Since 1900 The Orkney islands has played a pivotal role in Protecting Great Britain by maintaining the Home fleet in Scapa Flow. There are many poignant reminders of these turbulent periods which are etched on its landscape in the shape of the gun emplacements, watch towers and concrete bunkers, their remains can still be seen today. Our Orkney at War Trike Tours take you to some of the key sites from WW1 and WW2.
The famous ones being the Churchill Barriers, which Churchill Ordered to be constructed after the Battle Ship The Royal Oak was sunk in October Nineteen Thirty Nine with the loss of 835 lives. Visit the Italian Chapel, which was constructed by the Italian Prisoners of war in Nineteen Forty Two, be immersed in this hidden work of Art which still survives on its uninhabited Island.
Booking this tour you get both the pleasure of visiting some of these interesting places, and at the same time you can experiencing the thrill of riding on a motorbike, but in complete safety driven by an experienced Advanced driver. So its really two tours for the price of One.
Orkney is filled with breath taking views, a rich and long history as well as a friendly, vibrant community. Our tours give you a brilliant in-depth look at different aspects of Orkney past and present and if we pass a place of interest we will point it out to you.
In reality Orkney has had many "invasions" through its history, some friendly, others less so. Most of which we know very little about, so Orkney at war is perhaps an ongoing six thousand year history and we are just scratching its surface.
On a different note we also "Pick up and drop off" at your ship, ferry, Hotel or a pre-arranged place.
Warm weatherproof clothing is recommended as Orkney is much colder and windier than many expect on their first visit. after all we are a group of Islands off the north coast of Scotland and not known for its high temperatures. Please remember there is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes. We do provide helmets and intercoms with wind and waterproof equipment where required
