There are many poignant reminders of these turbulent periods which are etched on its landscape in the shape of the gun emplacements, watch towers and concrete bunkers, their remains can still be seen today. Warm weatherproof clothing is recommended as Orkney is much colder and windier than many expect on their first visit. after all we are a group of Islands off the north coast of Scotland and not known for its high temperatures.
